This is a new lever for the early W112 (up to chassis number 8908) which has the VNB axle valves without high position. This VNB lever is ca 130mm,  longer than the late style VNC lever

This lever can be rusted out or damaged and it should be replaced with a new lever.  The new lever is  made of steel and yellow plated just like the original lever.
